John Torchetti, who was interim head coach of the Minnesota Wild for the last 10 weeks of the regular season, has been named assistant coach of the Red Wings.
The Wild finished with a 15-11-1 record under Torchetti and made the playoffs but lost to the Dallas Stars in six games in the first round.
Torchetti has been an interim NHL head coach three times, including with the Los Angeles Kings (5-7-0 in 2005-06) and Florida Panthers (10-12-4-1 in 2003-04) before the Wild.
Torchetti, 51, completes the Red Wings coaching staff for Jeff Blashill.
