Jimmy Howard's strong performance lifts Red Wings in shootout

DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings started slowly Tuesday but got stronger as the game progressed and rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie it.

Dylan Larkin then scored the lone goal of the shootout to lift the Red Wings past the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 at Little Caesars Arena.

Jimmy Howard was the star of the game, making 40 saves in regulation and overtime and then denying all three shooters in the shootout.

The Red Wings improved to 5-8-2. The Canucks (9-7-0) had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Justin Abdelkader and Gustav Nyquist scored goals for Detroit in regulation.
