Andreas Athanasiou assessed his giveaway bobblehead doll with a critical eye, deeming it to be “all right.”
The more intriguing question is whether a contender assesses and deems him worth trading for by Monday’s deadline. The Detroit Red Wings are in rebuilding mode and Athanasiou is a 25-year-old forward who can play wing and center and who scored 30 goals last season.
He has the potential to be an impact player, but general manager Steve Yzerman might be hard-pressed to get a good offer right now because Athanasiou’s value has gone down compared to where he finished last season.
