Detroit — The Grand Rapids Griffins will name their new head coach Tuesday morning.
The Griffins — the Red Wings’ American Hockey League affiliate — announced a press conference for 11 a.m. that will be streamed on their website.
Ryan Martin, the Wings assistant general manager, will introduce the new head coach at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
Todd Nelson, who coached the Griffins the last three seasons (including winning the Calder Cup in 2017), left for an assistant coaching position with the NHL's Dallas Stars last week.
Nelson’s assistants, Ben Simon and Bruce Ramsay, expressed interest in the Griffins’ head coaching position.
