Griffins announcer ‘thrilled beyond words’ to fill in for Ken Kal

Detroit – Usually the Detroit Red Wings reach down to Grand Rapids for players.

Thursday it was a radio announcer on loan from the Griffins.

Bob Kaser, the Griffins’ radio play-by-play man in his 17th season, was called up by the Red Wings to fill in for Ken Kal, who was ill.

Detroit vs. Vancouver at Joe Louis Arena was Kaser’s first NHL broadcast.

“It’s funny, I’ve always maintained I don’t have the greatest vocabulary, which probably isn’t a good thing for a broadcaster, but even if I did, I don’t know if I could put it into words,” said Kaser of his feelings, shortly before Thursday’s broadcast.
