Detroit — They won’t go winless, the Red Wings made sure Monday of that fact.
There will be at least one victory under the win column, as the Red Wings marked the last regular season opener at Joe Louis Arena with a 5-1 victory over Ottawa.
And they did so largely because of defenseman Mike Green, who earned his first career hat trick in the victory, while Darren Helm added the other two goals, one on the power play, as the Red Wings roared to the victory.
Green’s third goal at 13 minutes 24 seconds of the third period gave the Red Wings a three-goal cushion, after the Senators had cut into the lead and were pressing.
