Mike Green likened his Detroit Red Wings arrival to "a first day of school for me."
He knows new teammate Darren Helm a little from off-season training, but overall, the past few days of informal skates at Joe Louis Arena have been about introductions and forming new friendships. Green sits next to fellow defenseman Niklas Kronwall in the dressing room and is penciled in to play next to Danny DeKeyser when training camp begins next week.
The Wings acquired Green in July, signing him to a three-year, $18-million contract that ended a yearlong search for a top-four defenseman who shoots right-handed.
