Detroit – The life of Gordie Howe was celebrated Wednesday at his funeral at packed Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Howe, 88, died Friday morning. An estimated 15,000 fans attended visitation Tuesday at Joe Louis Arena, and family, friends, and well-wishers from from all over the hockey world attended Wednesday’s funeral.
Commissioner Gary Bettman, deputy commissioner Bill Daly, Montreal Canadiens legend Guy LaFleur, Wayne Gretzky, Scotty Bowman and Mike Babcock were just some of the NHL dignitaries.
Chris Ilitch, general manager Ken Holland, Jeff Blashill, and players Darren Helm, Drew Miller, Riley Sheahan and Dylan Larkin, along with former players Chris Chelios, Jiri Fischer, Kirk Maltby and Kris Draper were just some of the Red Wings personnel in attendance.
