In the midst of the build-up to Friday’s Free Agent Frenzy, another important deadline passed in the NHL. Monday at 5:00 was the deadline for all teams to extend qualifying offers to their restricted free agents, and those players who do not receive these offers from their teams automatically become unrestricted free agents on July 1. In the past, teams have found a little success with these young UFAs, and the Red Wings could be poised to do that with a familiar face.
Landon Ferraro, who was lost by Detroit on waivers to Boston last fall, failed to receive a qualifying offer from the Bruins this week, making him able to sign with any team he wishes.
