Bryan Murray, who spent three years as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings in the early 1990s, died Saturday after a long battle with cancer.
He was 74.
Murray coached the Red Wings from 1991-93, compiling a 124-91-29 record and leading the Red Wings to the 1991-92 Norris Division championship.
But the Red Wings won just one playoff series under Murray - beating Minnesota in the first round in 1992 - and he was replaced by Scotty Bowman after Detroit was ousted by Toronto in seven games during the first round of the 1993 postseason after winning the first two games.
