Tanguay was hired in the offseason to replace Dan Bylsma as an assistant coach to work with the forwards and oversee a power play that was the worst it has been in recent memory last season, converting at 11.4 percent and ranking second from last in the NHL.
“There’s been a huge emphasis from Alex about just playing hockey,” Dylan Larkin said. “He encourages us -- when we get in high-pressure moments -- to not go to the book. Go to your instincts and make plays.”
Nick Leddy, who played against Tanguay toward the end of his career, said the first-year NHL assistant communicates well and encourages players to do likewise.
