Filip Zadina joins Grand Rapids Griffins: 'Now, it's up to me'

GRAND RAPIDS - Filip Zadina came into the Detroit Red Wings' camp expecting to make the team, so now the first-round pick has to adjust to his new surroundings with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The left winger, the No. 6 overall pick in the NHL draft, joined the Griffins in their first practice Monday at Van Andel Arena.

With two goals and an assist in seven preseason games with the Red Wings, Zadina was told Saturday his professional career would start in Grand Rapids.

"They talked to me like two days ago and told me I was going down and I was like OK," Zadina said.
