Fantasy sports booming but future difficult to predict

Detroit — The stadium and arena signage for DraftKings and FanDuel began popping up a few seasons ago in the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA and the NHL.

On the boards at Joe Louis Arena and displayed around Ford Field and Comerica Park, it touted the daily fantasy sports games.

The Pistons tout their FanDuel Club 300 as “the premier social club” at The Palace.

The two companies, engaged in a bitter business battle for pre-eminence in daily fantasy sports, garnered lucrative marketing agreements with the four major sports leagues and four local franchises, despite professional sports conspicuously steering clear of connections with gambling for generations.
