On Monday, Jonathan Ericsson sounded happy about the chance he soon would be suiting up for the Detroit Red Wings.
The team, though, has moved on to a younger group of players. The Wings placed Ericsson, 35, on waivers Tuesday. He is in the last year of a contract with a $4.25 million salary-cap hit.
The move was one of several transactions the Wings made Tuesday: they also recalled forward Evgeny Svechnikov, assigned defenseman Alex Biega to Grand Rapids, and placed forward Adam Erne on injured reserve retroactive to Oct.
