The Detroit Red Wings threw a curveball, again.
At No. 4 overall in the 2020 NHL draft, the Wings selected Swedish left wing Lucas Raymond.
The 18-year-old left wing (though he shoots right) played most of 2019-20 in the Swedish Hockey League, registering 10 points in 33 games with Frolunda. Raymond (5-11, 170) is high-hockey-IQ guy, plays with physicality, and is responsible in his own end.
He has one goal and one assist in four games with Frolunda to start the 2020-21 season.
General manager Steve Yzerman plays his cards close to his chest, but he did said last week the Wings won’t determine their first selection based on position, but on the player they deem the best available.
