The Detroit Red Wings received some disheartening news at the NHL draft lottery on Friday night. Instead of picking No. 1 overall, as the team with the best odds of winning the top pick, they’ll be drafting fourth (behind a team to be determined, the L.A. Kings and the Ottawa Senators).
Of course, Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has some experience with the No. 4 pick: That’s the spot he was selected by the Wings in 1983, in the franchise’s first draft under Ilitch family ownership.
