Russo will spend two more years with the Red Wings as he will enter his third season with the organization. The 24-year-old joined the Grand Rapids Griffins in the 2015-16 after finishing his collegiate hockey career at Notre Dame.
Last season saw Russo make his first National Hockey League appearance. In all, the defenseman made 19 appearances for the Wings in the 2016-17 season. He has yet to record his first point for the team.
Russo was a member of the Griffins Calder Cup winning team as he recorded seven points in the American Hockey League playoffs.
