TORONTO -- The Detroit Red Wings will get a look at the most productive defenseman in their farm system over the coming games.
Robbie Russo is joining the Wings to sub for Ryan Sproul, who suffered a sprained knee over the weekend. Russo has seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points in 56 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins this season. He leads all Griffins defensemen in scoring and is seventh on the team.
Selected 95th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2011 NHL draft, Russo, 24, was signed by the Wings as a free agent in the summer of 2015.
