With its wide shingled body, its base made of stone and a dozen roof gables, this handsome house looks like it was lifted from the Nantucket seashore.
Eyebrow windows are set into its roof. It has the shingle-style house’s classic wide veranda across the front, supported by simple straight pillars.
Shingle style was a favorite of the East Coast wealthy starting around 1890, considered a very American style. Its beauty was thought to come from mixing shapes and natural materials, not applied decoration.
This is a newer house, built in 2013 by one of the Detroit Red Wings, though the current owners don’t want to name him.
