Detroit Red Wings notes: Brendan Smith always willing to come to teammate's defense in fight

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have been at or near the bottom of the NHL in fighting majors for many years, and this season is no exception.

They don't have a heavyweight and only a couple of players who fight at all. But Brendan Smith said they're not going to be pushed around.

Smith came to Henrik Zetterberg's aid Tuesday when the Buffalo Sabres' Evander Kane tried to initiate a fight with the Detroit captain. The Red Wings ended up shorthanded and Buffalo scored on the power play. But coach Jeff Blashill said he would want Smith to do that every time.
