Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall will not be playing at the World Cup of Hockey.
The Swedish Ice Hockey Association announced today that Anaheim Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm will replace the “injured” Kronwall on the 23-man roster that will compete in September and October. Henrik Zetterberg also is on the Swedish team, one of now eight Wings who will play in the event.
Kronwall, 35, spent much of last season playing on a bad left knee. He underwent a procedure in mid-January that sidelined him 15 games (he also missed time in March after spraining his right knee).
