Detroit Red Wings lose at Anaheim Ducks, 4-2, as fights stoke old rivalry

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Cheers erupted at Honda Center as Justin Abdelkader, Anthony Mantha, Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler were released from the penalty boxes early in the third period.

Friday night saw a fight card highlighted by Abdelkader and Perry throwing punches at one another as the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks stoked an old rivalry.

Scoring proved harder for the Wings, and they fell 4-2, their losing streak growing to 0-8-1.

The Wings fell behind 1-0 at 6:02 of the first period when Nick Ritchie connected on a corner pass from Ondrej Kase. Mantha drew a penalty on Ryan Getzlaf while the Wings had possession of the puck, setting up a good two minutes 30 seconds with an extra skater, but it didn’t yield much in the way of momentum.
