Detroit Red Wings land coveted defense prospect. How soon can he help?

The Detroit Red Wings are adding a young player who could figure into their rebuild.

Todd Diamond, the agent for free agent defenseman Oliwer Kaski, told the Free Press Monday that Kaski intends to sign with the Wings after the World Championship, which runs through May 26 in Slovakia. Kaski plays for Finland, which lost Monday to a U.S. team featuring Dylan Larkin, Luke Glendening and head coach Jeff Blashill. Kaski had an assist.

Kaski, 6-foot-3, 187 pounds, was scouted by numerous NHL teams this past season while playing for the Lahti Pelicans in Finland’s top hockey league.
