GRAND RAPIDS — Jared Coreau couldn’t help but peek.
There he was in the biggest game of his career, and the Detroit Red Wings goaltending prospect just had to know how long before it would be over.
Leading top Wings affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins to the 2017 Calder Cup was extra special for Coreau, a reward for all the extracurricular work he put into his profession. From the eye-coordination training to the mental toughness exercises, from his awareness of what he needed to do to make it, it came together Tuesday night at Van Andel Arena when Coreau made 29 saves en route to clinching the Calder Cup with a 4-3 victory over Syracuse in Game 6.
