The Detroit Red Wings plan on signing draftee Filip Zadina to an entry-level contract some time in July.
With the free agent market opening Sunday, general manager Ken Holland is focused on which veterans he will add to the 2018-19 lineup.
Top on the needs list is a goaltender, as the Wings only have NHL regular Jimmy Howard under contract. The Wings are also looking to add a veteran defenseman, and a forward.
As it stands now, the Wings have eight NHL regulars under contract up front and five on defense, plus swingman Luke Witkowski.
