I’ve been buying NHL hockey video games since I was 13 years old. That’s a long damn time. It was as a seventh grader I danced around the house when I could play as my beloved Detroit Red Wings in the inaugural NHL game that only let you play in the playoffs. Back then it didn’t even have names–instead it was #11 (Shawn Burr) #91 (Sergei Fedorov) and #19 (Steve Yzerman) that I constantly wanted to control on the ice. The Wings were coming into their own and so too, was the series. I bought NHLPA hockey and then NHL 94 right after it, and well, an addiction was formed.
