It was a draft for the ages, the likes of which the NHL will never see again.
In 1989, the Detroit Red Wings left the draft table with a pair of players, Nicklas Lidstrom and Sergei Fedorov, who would go on to experience Hall of Fame careers, and a high-impact defenseman, Vladimir Konstantinov, whose career was cut short due to a debilitating injury from a limousine accident.
That doesn't even include their top two picks, Mike Sillinger, who played more than 1,000 games for a dozen teams, and Bob Boughner, who appeared in 630 games, none for Detroit.
