Reader reaction to a story calling for the Detroit Red Wings to retire Sergei Fedorov's number revealed he remains polarizing.
Fedorov is one of the greatest Red Wings of all time — he helped them win Stanley Cups in 1997, 1998 and 2002, and ranks sixth in franchise scoring with 954 points. He was incredible to watch, a dominant skater who dazzled with the puck. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame on first eligibility, in 2015.
Many readers thought those accomplishments should earn Fedorov’s No. 91 a place in the rafters of Little Caesars Arena, next to Nicklas Lidstrom, Steve Yzerman, Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, Terry Sawchuk, Alex Delvecchio and Sid Abel.
