Detroit Red Wings: Fancy Stats Continued- PDO

Welcome to the second installment of advanced statistic introductions! Previously, we discussed Corsi, a measure of puck possession on individual and team levels. Make sure to check it out here if you missed it.

Today, we’re discussing a statistic called PDO: the measure of how “lucky” a player or team is. To arrive at a team’s PDO, you simply add its even-strength shooting percentage to its even-strength save percentage.

In the NHL, the average shooting percentage (the percentage of shots taken that are goals) is 7.7%, which means the average save percentage is 92.
