Filip Zadina talks about being drafted by the Red Wings Helene St. James, Detroit Free Press
DALLAS — Shock turned to ecstasy as the Detroit Red Wings appear to have accelerated their rebuild.
They used opening night of the 2018 draft to add significant building blocks during a first round that saw Filip Zadina available at sixth and Joe Veleno at 30th.
Zadina, projected to go as high as third, is a high-end winger who will provide a much-needed scoring dimension. The team’s director of amateur scouting, Tyler Wright, was in disbelief at the Wings’ good fortune.
