It’s one thing to choose well when drafting in the first round. The later rounds, though? That’s when a team’s scouts can come out looking really good.
On the flip side, it stings when a team flops a high-round pick.
The Detroit Red Wings have made some marvelous selections in later rounds, never more so than in 1989, when they drafted Nicklas Lidstrom in the third round, Sergei Fedorov in the fourth round and Vladimir Konstantinov in the 11th round.
