The Detroit Red Wings drafted Canadian left winger Dylan James in the second round, No. 40 overall, of the 2022 NHL draft Friday afternoon.
James, 6 feet and 177 pounds, most recently played for Sioux City in the USHL.
It was the first of two second-round picks for the Wings. They selected Russian left wing Dmitri Buchelnikov at No. 52.
Before Friday's second day of the draft began, Wings general manager Steve Yzerman traded a third-round pick for St. Louis Blues goaltender Ville Husso, then signed him to a three-year, $14.
