Detroit Red Wings: Daniel Cleary Accepts Mentoring Role

After being placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings on October 7, Daniel Cleary decided that he would not report to the Grand Rapids Griffins after clearing waivers the following day. It looked as if the Daniel Cleary saga/era in Detroit had finally come to a quiet and unceremonious close.

But after some soul-searching and contemplation it appears that the 17-year NHL veteran is not quite ready to hang up his skates and will indeed report to the AHL and the Grand Rapids Griffins. It took some time but it looks as if Cleary has finally realized his days in the NHL are over and he would be better suited to play the mentor roll.
