The Detroit Red Wings threatened at the end but it wasn't enough to overcome an ineffective start.
The Wings were outshot 24-12 after two periods Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena en route to a 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins, now 22 points up on Detroit and 17-1-3 in the last 21 games.
A positive for the Wings was seeing the power play produce when Martin Frk scored on a slap shot early in the second period. The Wings were desperate enough to pull Jimmy Howard with 2:40 remaining in regulation. Frans Nielsen cut the lead to one goal with 1:24 to go.
