Detroit Red Wings: Cleary and Ouellet Assigned to Griffins

Here’s some news that will please many; the Detroit Red Wings have assigned Daniel Cleary to the Grand Rapids Griffins, it was confirmed today.

In less exciting news, Xavier Ouellet has also been sent down the AHL.

Cleary, 35, won’t be troubling the Red Wings’ right wing any time soon, having cleared waivers and been assigned to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. The move was made to make roster space for Jakub Kindl, who is expected to play in the season opener tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Assigning Cleary to the Griffins has the added benefit of freeing up $950,000 from the Red Wings’ salary cap.
