Detroit — Detroit could become a hotbed for NCAA championships in the years ahead.
The Detroit Sports Commission and Little Caesars Arena — future home of the Detroit Red Wings — have applied to host multiple NCAA championship events in the coming years.
“Definitely it’s a game-changer for us,” said Dave Beachnau, Detroit Sports Commission executive director, of the new arena scheduled to open in 2017. “A downtown location that fans can walk to and from a variety of bars and restaurants. There’s plenty of competition around the country with that sort of dynamic.
“This (new arena, development) creates opportunities.
