The Red Wings traded up to begin the second day of the NHL Entry Draft, acquiring the 36th overall pick from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for the 38th selection and an additional fourth-round pick (128th overall) to select defenseman Shai Buium. Buium has split each of the last two seasons between Shattuck St. Mary’s in the U.S. prep hockey ranks and the United States Hockey League’s Sioux City Musketeers. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound blueliner began the 2020-21 season at Shattuck St. Mary’s and logged 13 points (2-11-13) and two penalty minutes in 17 games, before shifting to the USHL and posting 26 points (4-22-26), a plus-16 rating and 27 penalty minutes in 50 games.
