Traverse City — Dan Cleary is back in the Red Wings organization.
Cleary, 37, signed a one-year contract Friday with the minor league affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.
Cleary played in 35 games with the Griffins last season scoring three goals with 12 assists.
Cleary signed in 2005 with the Red Wings and has played in 609 games with the team scoring 275 points.
He’s played in 938 NHL games with the Red Wings, Coyotes, Oilers and Blackhawks.
It’s expected his role with the Griffins this season will be more of a player-coach.
