Detroit — The new three-on-three overtime rule prevailed at Joe Louis Arena Saturday, after a closely contested game in regulation, and the Boston Bruins beat the Red Wings 4-3 on an overtime goal by the former Michigan State Spartan Torey Krug.
Penalties cramped the Wings style for much of the game, including one for too many men on the ice in overtime that led to Krug’s power-play goal.
The Wings got off to a rough start in the first period, with three penalties in the first 10 minutes, including Justin Abdelkader for goaltender interference on a play that erased a power-play goal by Jakub Kindl.
