Blog: Rangers strike first

N.Y. Rangers’ 39-year-old defenseman Dan Boyle scores on Wings goalie Jimmy Howard to give New York a 1-0 lead with 3:36 left in the opening period.

Wings forward Gustav Nyquist lost the puck to Boyle, who sprinted out of his zone and capped a two-on-one rush with a wrist shot that beat Howard.

The goal occurred during 4-on-4 action. The Wings went on the power play when Rangers defenseman Marc Staal was whistled for a high stick.

Twenty seconds later, Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg went to the box (holding), negating a power play.
