The Grand Rapids Griffins erupted for three goals in each of the second and third periods and routed the host Lake Erie Monsters, 6-1, in Cleveland in Game 5 of the American Hockey League playoffs.
After trailing the AHL Central Division Calder Cup final 3-0, the Griffins have won two games in a row. Game 6 is Monday at 7 p.m. in Grand Rapids.
Tyler Bertuzzi scored three times for the Griffins, and Andreas Athanasiou added one goal and an assist.
Jared Coreau made 35 saves for the Griffins.
The Griffins killed off four Monsters’ penalties.
