Athanasiou goal gives Red Wings overtime victory

Detroit — The Detroit Red Wings got the Boston Bruins exactly where they wanted them — and did it again, another overtime victory.

Andreas Athanasiou scored 49 seconds into overtime, his second goal of the game, giving the Red Wings a 3-2 victory Wednesday over Boston.

Athanasiou snapped a loose puck over goalie Tuukka Rask’s right shoulder, his team-leading ninth goal, giving the Wings (10-9-2) their 9th win in the last 11 games.

Athansiou tied the score 2-2 at 8:59 of the third period, his eighth goal.

Box score: Red Wings 3, Bruins 2, OT

Athanasiou and Gustav Nyquist were on a 2-on-1 rush, with Nyquist stopped by Rask on the shot, but Rask dropped the puck and Athanasiou was there to slam the rebound.
