The past five coaches for the Detroit Red Wings lost in the first round of the playoffs in their first season with the team.
At least three of them – Scotty Bowman, Dave Lewis and Mike Babcock – had better teams than Jeff Blashill, clubs that were heavy favorites in the opening round and were upset. But Blashill has come under heavy scrutiny from fans following the team's playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It's not just the first-round exit that concerns fans. This team never gained traction during the season, lost too many key games down the stretch while battling for their playoff lives and needed help on the final day of the season to qualify.
