Anthony Mantha’s goal rescues Red Wings in OT

Montreal — A successful return home for Anthony Mantha.

The Montreal native scored with 49.6 seconds left in overtime, giving the Red Wings a 2-1 victory over the Canadiens Tuesday.

Montreal goaltender Al Montoya (Michigan) was great in overtime, but couldn’t stop Mantha’s shot from the top of the slot, whose rising shot beat Montoya.

It was Mantha’s third goal in his career in six games against the team he grew up cheering for.

Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard (35 saves) was 2 minutes 29 seconds away from a shutout when Montreal’s Artturi Lehkonen’s shot in transition from the top of the slot beat Howard for his 13th goal.
