The Detroit Red Wings began their three-games-in-three-days with an opponent that had just clinched a playoff spot.
The Wings rallied twice Sunday afternoon at Joe Louis Arena from one-goal deficits against the Minnesota Wild and Andreas Athanasiou scored on a breakaway in overtime to win, 3-2.
The Wings were to leave after the game for Carolina, where they play Monday and Tuesday. The Monday game is the make-up date for the Dec. 19 game that was postponed because of bad ice.
Mike Green scored at the end of the first period but the Wild, who had secured a playoff spot the day Saturday, led 2-1 going into the third period.
