Detroit — Justin Abdelkader will be in a Red Wings uniform for a while.
A potential unrestricted free agent next summer, Abdelkader and the Red Wings have signed a seven-year contract extension.
The annual value of the deal for the forward is expected to be between $4 million and $4.5 million.
Abdelkader, 28, is finishing a four-year contract that totaled $7.2 million (his base salary this season is $2.25 million).
Abdelkader is coming off a career-best season in which he scored 23 goals and 44 points in 61 games. He also led the team with 153 hits.
