A Disappointing Loss And Seider’s Shift

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

Rust wasn’t an issue Friday in the Detroit Red Wings’ first game in 13 days. They played well defensively, generated enough scoring chances in coach Jeff Blashill’s estimation, and got good goaltending.

But they skated off without a point because they didn’t make a play at the right time while the Washington Capitals did in a 3-1 victory at Little Caesars Arena.

Alex Ovechkin snapped a 1-1 tie with 2:50 remaining in the third period, just as a late interference penalty on Robby Fabbri expired. Ovechkin then wrapped it up with an empty-net goal in the final minute,

“I thought we played well enough to win the hockey game, put ourselves in position to win,” Blashill said.
