The Red Wings have made a managerial transition in the midst of their rebuild, as Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman returns to Detroit to replace longtime GM Ken Holland. Detroit has begun their transition from the Pavel Datsyuk-Henrik Zetterberg era with youngsters Dylan Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou, and Anthony Mantha as their new core group, and also has promising youngsters in Filip Zadina, Joe Veleno and Michael Rasmussen in the pipeline, but the former Lightning GM will have a large hurdle in front of him revamping the Wings organization and clearing out the cap-crippling contracts of Justin Abdelkader, Frans Nielsen, and Darren Helm.
