It was no surprise when the Detroit Pistons parted ways with third-year guard Darrun Hilliard earlier this summer. He had a nonguaranteed contract and it was expected to be a foregone conclusion the team would waive him before free agency began, but instead they traded him to the Houston Rockets, who traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers, who they waived him.
Hilliard stayed busy this summer, winning FIBA gold with the American national team and current Piston forward Derek Willis. He appeared in all five games of the tournament, averaging 13.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 23 minutes per game.
