Pistons' Reggie Bullock sits out season opener with back spasms

TORONTO — Reggie Bullock will sit out the Detroit Pistons' season opener tonight with back spasms, the team announced Wednesday.

Bullock's absence leaves the Pistons three healthy backup options on the wing against the Toronto Raptors (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit): second-year players Stanley Johnson and Darrun Hilliard, and rookie Michael Gbinije.

Bullock, 34, averaged 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds in 37 games off the bench for Detroit last season and was considered in the mix to crack the starting rotation during training camp.

He averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in three preseason games.

The injury opens a door for Gbinije after coach Stan Van Gundy announced 90 minutes prior to the game the second-round pick would join Reggie Jackson on the team's inactive list.
